Laura Bow is the daughter of the detective John Bow who raised her alone when his wife died, and a journalist student at Tulane University. Her best friend there was Lillian Prune. Laura had the reputation of liking mysteries and creepy places, and for that reason Lillian invited her for a weekend at her uncle's Henri Dijon mansion. Although Laura was unable to prevent the eight killings, she managed to save the colonel's life. As a reward, he let her keep the jewels she found at the estate.

In 1926, she began working for Sam Augustini at the New York Daily News Tribune. While doing a story about the stolen Dagger of Amon Ra at the Leyendecker Museum, she encountered another killing spree. After she recovered the stolen Dagger and identified the murderer, Augustini nominated her for Pulitzer Prize and she started dating Steve Dorian.

According to some sources, she married Steve at a later date.

Later in the 20th century and into her 80s, Laura Bow-Dorian gave lectures about Investigative Reporting techniques in to Tulane University.[1]

Family[]

Not much is known about her family, aside from her father John Bow and her deceased mother. One of the exhibits in the Life Masks display at the Leyendecker Museum reminds Laura of her great-aunt Marjorie, who traveled to Brazil to treat her brain fever and never returned.

Trivia[]

In at least two points in The Dagger of Amon Ra, responses indicate that Laura is a vegetarian. First, when examining the corn beef sandwich, and later when attempting to reclaim the Meat after the Dermestid beetles carry it off.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • Her name is a pun on Clara Bow[2].

Laura is the writer of some outside the game documents, such as How to Create A Mystery: The Recipe for The Dagger of Amon Ra and Post-Mortem on the "The Dagger of Amon Ra" investigation.

  • The latter part of Laura's life is based on the optimal ending of The Dagger of Amon Ra where Laura starts dating Steve and is nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. There is also a relevant reference in GK1; when Gabriel enters the lecture hall of New Orleans university, there is a notice on the bulletin board about a lecture on "Investigative Reporting techniques to be given by octogenarian Pulitzer Prize winner Laura Bow Dorian" - indicating that Laura won the Pulitzer Prize, married Steve and lived to an old age.[1]
